 osun-NL

Students of Osun State government-owned tertiary institutions, yesterday for over an hour, prevented the deputy governor, Mrs. Grace Laoye-Tomori from entering the Abeere Government Secretariat while protesting the continued closure of their campuses.

The students, mainly from the four tertiary institutions, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Osun state College of Education, Ila and Ilesa, participated in the protest which lasted several hours.
The students demanded immediate re-opening of their schools shut nine months ago.

The students had, as early as 9.00 am, converged on the popular Olaiya junction and held up traffic for about an hour before moving to the state secretariat. During the protest, the students blocked all roads leading to the secretariat and insisted that their campuses be immediately reopened.

Attempt by the permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Education Mr. Lawerence Oyeniran, to pacify the students failed as he was booed and later whiskered away by the police and men of the Directorate of State Services.

Leaders of the protesting students, Mr Adekunle Animasahun and Lukman Adekitan said their demands include immediate re-opening of their institutions, improvement of infrastructures in their institutions, recruitment of more lecturers and payment of salary arrears to workers.

The deputy Governor, Mrs Laoye Tomori, who was returning from vacation later arrived the scene and attempted to enter the Government Secretariat, but was prevented by the protesters.

No more concessional posting of NYSC Student

Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi has said that there would no longer be concessional posting for all corps members. Brig. Olawunmi said this while speaking with journalists during the opening ceremony of the training organised by the NYSC and the Housing Developers Cooperative Society for Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja yesterday September 21st.

“The NYSC is barring concessional posting; we have to take that decision, because in the past, we allowed concessional posting for prospective corps members, who had medical challenge, or married women or pregnant women, but as it stands now, our online registration platform has been designed in such a way to address the problem of those prospective corps members who have health challenges or married women.”

“So, all they need to do is that, in the process of doing their registration, there are information these categories of people need to supply and upload the documents, our portal has been designed in such a way that it will automatically post them to where they filled. I want to say that in the past few weeks we have been receiving requests from various quarters; ministries, departments, agencies, private institutions and individuals seeking for concessional posting. I want to say that they are just wasting their time,” he said.

Peter Okoye says Soundcity TV Has Refused to Play P-Square Videos | Soundcity Responds

A couple of hours ago on social media network, Twitter, Peter Okoye of P-Square revealed that music station Soundcity has refused to play their videos.

While he didn’t reveal the reason for this development, he urged his fans to pay attention to other music channels like MTV-BASE, HIP-TV, TRACE-TV and AFRO-POP.
He tweeted:

Soundcity responded with this post below on their website:

For 10 Years, @SoundcityTV has been a huge supporter of #PSquare and the #PSquare brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on @SoundcityTV than any other music channel.

@SoundcityTV viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of #PSquare videos on the channel & charts. We were a huge supporter and gave everything to their works.

We have assisted the #PSquare brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense. Gave them ad-spots for their events / projects. Gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes / programming.

We invited #PSquare to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer?; this was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as music talents / artistes & entertainers.

The feedback was, “WHAT HAS SOUNDCITY EVER DONE FOR PSQUARE? TELL ME ONE THING SOUNDCITY HAS EVER DONE FOR PSQUARE” (Jude Okoye, Manager).

While we understand that this is business, there is also room for special consideration. Saying our TV brand has never done anything for #PSquare was quite damning. Clearly, there was no need to argue with their decision and reasoning. We decided to stop ‘doing anything’ with/for #PSquare, since our 10years of supporting the group meant nothing to them. We assumed our relationship was a mutually beneficial one, but clearly one-sided.

Ultimately, #PSquare music videos stopped airing on @SoundcityTV since January 01, 2015. Soundcity reserves the right to air music videos on our cable / satellite or terrestrial platforms.

Overall, we wish the duo the best in their endeavours. @SoundcityTV will keep airing works of the best and upcoming Nigerian artistes, and also, the best #African artistes to the world, especially nurturing their talents from inception till they become huge megastars and international superstars.
