Latest List Of The Most Valuable Players In Europe

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard would cost more to buy than Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to the latest report by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory.

As part of a comprehensive study of players plying their trade in one of Europe’s top five leagues – the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue Un – the Belgium international was valued at between £99-110million.

The PFA Player of the Year was second only to Lionel Messi, who is worth up to £207m, while Real Madrid forward Ronaldo completed the top three.

The research group applied a number of factors, including a player’s age, the length of their contract and the level of their performance as well as taking into account their club’s results and achievements, to work out how much the player would be worth in the transfer market.

This would explain why Ronaldo is valued at less than Hazard; the Belgium star is six years Ronaldo’s junior and has a contract at Chelsea until 2020 – two years longer than the Portugal international.

Meanwhile, Tottenham sensation Harry Kane, who enjoyed a standout season in which he scored 31 goals for the north London club, is valued higher than his former team-mate Gareth Bale.

The Wales international moved to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 for a world record £85m fee, but according to the study his value has dropped by half.

Bale has endured a difficult season in La Liga and is now valued at just £42m, while Kane, who has been linked with a £45m-plus switch to Manchester United this summer is worth up to £44m.

Neymar Jnr, who scored 39 goals for Barcelona including in last Saturday’s Champions League final is the fourth highest valued player in Europe and, according to this report would set you back up to £73m.

Wantaway Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling is the highest valued England player on the list, coming in at No 6 and despite only having two years left on his contract is worth as much as £60m.

The former QPR youngster, at just 20 years old, is also the youngest player in the top 50 and in fact, England boast the four youngest players on the list – Sterling, Kane, Ross Barkley and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It is generally accepted that the Premier League has fallen behind Europe in terms of quality in recent seasons but the English top flight is actually the best represented league in the top 10.

Hazard and Sterling are joined by Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, Chelsea’s Diego Costa and Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez in the upper echelons of the list.

Highly sought after Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, who is being chased by the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona is seventh on the list.
