Yabatech: The Growing Rots, Extortion and Neglects Students Are Complaining about Life

“Our campus is now total eyesore”, students have cried out.
“This school needs comprehensive intervention, and this is a matter of urgency”, a female student told our correspondent.
Yaba College of Technology sits along two other higher institutions; the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Akoka, making the vicinity a concentrated academic district.
Recently, the Yaba College of Technology became notorious with news of cult clashes. Some students had alleged that the College’s Management is involved in grooming secret cults on the campus.
At present, the students are reporting an increasing rot in the College. They alleged total neglect by Management of the College and also complained that they are exploited.

“They banned our Student Union and began to increase fees. The Management now imposes levies on us indiscriminately”, the students complained.
“We are calling to inform of what degeneration that our campus now is”, one female student said.
While some student complained about extortion, others were concerned that infrastructures are dilapidating from Management’s neglect. “We now go out of campus to nearby restaurants and banks just to use their toilets. We can’t enter toilets of our own on campus. They are rotten.
“They [the Management] would have us hold impression that our school is free, whereas we are paying various inexplicable dues that are way too high”, the students said.
In another email to our correspondent, the students said the school has no definite program completion plan; “We are not sure we have a school calendar; it takes more than two years to complete either our National Diploma or Higher National Diploma..”
The email also says in part; “School resumed May 25th 2015 and some departments started lectures that week, [but] a new calendar just came out from the Management stating we [have just] resumed 22nd of June and Exams starts on the 12th of October 2015″
“WE SAY NO TO THIS!!! ENOUGH OF *Bedbugs in classrooms *Sleeping in Classrooms *Congested rooms in the Hostels * Paying for spaces (hostels) that is Dilapidated, No Renovation, No Rehabilitation!!!! * Lack of Conducive restrooms within the school premises and hostels * Poor Health care services, the rooms are not well cleaned, condemned mattresses…”

“Doctors and Nurses attend to students like we are begging them to work or we didn’t pay for their services. Students are intimidated and purposely taken off their rights by suspending the Student Union Government of the College. We do not portray our popular saying of “THE FIRST AND STILL THE BEST” Neither are we leading the frontline”, the College students’ message to protested.
