The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC will from tomorrow, Tuesday display the official Voters Register, in line with Section 20 of the Electoral Act.
According to the electoral body, the register stands at 70, 383, 427.
Section 20 of the Electoral Act says, “The supplementary voters’ list shall be integrated with voters’ register and published not later than 30 days before a general election.”
INEC said the publication of the register would include all Nigerians captured in the 2011 registration, those who collected their cards and those that did not.
In the same vein, the Commission is expected to release the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates after withdrawals and replacements by political parties.
The electoral body had said that only those on the candidate’s list after the period given for withdrawals and replacement would be printed in the ballot papers for the two elections scheduled to hold on February 14.
This grace period for withdrawal and replacement ends tomorrow for governorship and House of Assembly candidates, 45 days before the February 28th date for the election in accordance with Section 35 of the Electoral Act.
Section 35 says: “A candidate may withdraw his candidature by notice in writing signed by him and delivered by himself to the political party that nominated him for the election and the political party shall convey such withdrawal to the commission and which shall only be allowed not later than 45 days to the election,”
