Nigeria Won’t Break Despite the Challenges – GEJ


The president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday said that Nigeria is not a broken nation and it will never break despite its political and security challenges.

President Jonathan who made this statement in Abuja during the launch of a book authored by Nigeria’s former high commissioner to Canada, Professor Iyorwuese Hagher, entitled: ‘Diverse But Not Broken’, added that the country would not break despite the challenges it is facing at the moment.


Represented by his chief of staff, Mr Jones Arogbofa, the president noted that Nigerians need peace and political understanding now more than ever before in order to achieve greater development.

He said further that Nigerians should ensure that the transformation agenda of his administration is not only on course but value must also be added to it to enable it serve the desired purpose.

He also urged Nigerians to shun greed, stressing that a country that adores greed would always lack development and understanding.

On the forthcoming 2015 general elections, President Jonathan said that Nigerians should believe in one man, one vote, noting that there would be no trouble before and after the elections if the people hold such belief.

He said, “Let us believe in one man, one vote. If you believe in this, there will be no trouble before and after the elections. I urge you not to run away. Use your voter cards to fight for your lives and those of your children.”

He lauded the efforts of the author, Ambassador Iyorwuese Hagher, for creating time to write the book despite his tight schedule.

The governor of Benue State, Dr Gabriel Suswam, was the chief host at the launch,while the book was reviewed by a governorship aspirant in Benue under the Peoples Democratic Party and former vice-chancellor of the State University, Professor David Ker.
