Not yet through for Eagles, says Garba Lawal

The former Nigeria international has insisted that the Eagles still have a lot to do if they hope to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Former Nigeria midfielder Garba Lawal has expressed his delight with the Super Eagles victory against Sudan in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja.
Second-half strikes from Ahmed Musa and Aaron Samuel gave Nigeria’s Afcon 2015 chances a glimmer of hope but the former Eagles midfielder will need maximum concentration if they hope to stand a chance to defend their title in the north African country.

"The victory against Sudan was fantastic and that is what we look in for. When we talk, Keshi will say we don’t like him and will be saying all sort of things in the media telling Nigerians to shut up.
"When we criticize the national team, we are not talking about the coach alone. The players are also included because a victory for them is a victory for all Nigerians.
"Beating Sudan alone will not take us to Morocco. We have to win our last two games to qualify for the 2015 Nations Cup but that will be very difficult.
He however expressed his displeasure with the backline of the Super Eagles stating that a lot needs to be done going into the last two qualifiers and Congo and South Africa.
"We are still not satisfied with our back four. The defence line is still problematic. The Sudanese equalized almost immediately we got our first goal.
"And for the guy who scored the second goal [Aaron Samuel] that is the way to play for the country. He took the risk and scored - that is the way and character while in the national team jersey,” he concluded.
