THE Abuja #BringBackOurGirls campaign group has planned to hold a march-in-peaceful protest to the Presidential Villa today. In a press release issued yesterday in Abuja, the group had announced the course of action as continuation to its Global Week of Action to mark six months since the abduction of the Chibok girls. The statement read:
In continuation of our Global Week of Action to commemorate the unfortunate six months since the abduction of our 219 Chibok school girls, the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja wishes to notify members of the public that we have requested for an appointment, and will be marching to meet with our President on Tuesday October 14, 2014.”
The group said the objective of the march to the Presidential Villa is ‘to convey the urgency for the immediate rescue of the girls’ and ‘to get direct response and the accurate status of efforts from rescue operations’ from the President himself. It said: “The last 180 days have been one of dashed hopes, intense pain and confusion for the families due to lack of accurate information from the government on the current status of the rescue operations. The march will be joined by some of the parents of the abducted girls as we continue to stand in solidarity with the abducted 219 girls and their families.”
